The story
South Sudan has very few paved roads, and those it has can close for months in the rainy season. Our Twin Otters carry ICRC staff, medical teams, surgical patients and supplies between Juba and field locations that are often just a strip of cleared ground.
In 2019 two of the aircraft needed heavy maintenance. So our engineers did it in Kajjansi, Uganda, in the rainy season, painting outdoors between downpours to a schedule built on the weather forecast. Both aircraft went back into service on time.
